of Evlambia, was born in the year 1924 in Farasa, Cappadocia, and received holy baptism from Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia in his hometown. Saint Arsenios, on the day of his baptism, prophetically expressed his will to leave a monk as his successor. Already an infant, the saint Paisios came to Greece with his compatriots, refugees of the Asia Minor Catastrophe. He grew up in Konitsa, served in the army, worked as a carpenter and came to Mount Athos to become a monk in 1953. His first monastery of penance was our Holy Monastery of Esfigmenos, where he was renamed Averkios with a racial blessing from the abbot Kallinikos.He remained within the building complex of the monastery between the years 1953-1954 and was a registered Esphigmenite monk until 1956, when he was registered in the Filotheou monastery. With his solitary labors and fervent heartfelt prayer, he helped thousands of people in various ways and clearly attracted divine grace. His position against zealotism-Paleologitism was clear, he considered it a "cancer" for the Church. He fell asleep in the Lord in 1994, while he was officially registered in the canon in 2015 by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
